The person, not the diagnosis.

Kintsugi is a photographic project about clinical treatment, identity, memory and the human experience of living with a cleft lip or palate. It takes its name from the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold.

Scars, differences and the changes a life brings are not imperfections to hide but part of a history worth recognizing. As in kintsugi, where the repair becomes a visible part of the object, these portraits embrace the marks of transformation instead of erasing them.

The gold stands for the value of lived experience. Instead of defect, correction or before-and-after, the portraits speak of dignity, identity, resilience and renewal.
